Who would’ve thought they’d be able to find a bird sanctuary in the heart of Johannesburg? I certainly didn’t. But as I was driving down Beyers Naude the other day toward Cresta shopping centre, I came across this sign “The Kelland Bird Sanctuary”. As a tourist, hire a car from Johannesburg car hire, investigate this beautiful piece of land. It is situated at the confluence of the Darrenwood Spruit and Fairlands Spruit and the Klein Jukskei River, between the Randpark Golf Course and the Willows Estate. It is fed by the Fairlands Spruit and the Darrenwood Spruit and has 24 bird species.

“Kingdom in the Sky” – this is what Lesotho in Southern Africa is called and for good reason.  Nestled island-like in the middle of Southern Africa, this stunningly beautiful mountainous country is a fascinating travel detour from its larger neighbour.  Offering superb mountain scenery, proud traditional people, endless hiking trails with the chance to explore the remote areas on Basotho ponies.  Getting around is reasonably easy by going through a car rental company, there is also public transport, although it is rather slow.  Hiking or pony trekking are the best ways of exploring this beautiful country

The biggest among the East African countries is Tanzania. It has a spectacular landscape and the Great Rift Valley runs from north east of Africa through central Tanzania, and is another landmark that adds to the amazing scenic view of the country. Go through a car rental company and enjoy the pristine sandy beaches, visit Africa’s highest snow-capped mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro, but enjoy the largest concentration of wild animals. Within hours, it is easy to be lazing on idyllic beaches, then to explore moss-covered ruins of ancient Swahili city-states. Or climb mist-covered slopes in the Southern Highlands, or trekking through barren landscapes.

Cape Town airport offers an excellent entry point to South Africa. The airport has recently undergone extensive renovations to bring it into line with international standards. When in South Africa it is advisable to rent a car with Cape Town car rental as many destinations are not easily accessible by public transport. Although there are public transport systems in Cape Town, they are not entirely suited to the holiday maker and are not always reliable after hours. A self-drive tour starting in Cape Town and travelling through South Africa is a popular holiday choice.
